And you say you can’t learn English? Really?

allegroPeople hate commercials. They get on your nerves when you’re trying to watch a good movie and it’s interrupted with commercial breaks. They pop up and attack you straight from your computer screen when you’re surfing the net. They tend to be boring, repetitive and often simply ridiculous. But from time to time some advertising agency manages to produce a commercial which goes viral.

I’ve recently come across one of these. It really touched my heartstrings when I saw it. Have a look. It’s really worth watching till the end.

I love it for two reasons: firstly, because it’s really moving. It shows a beautiful story in just 3 minutes. But secondly, and more importantly, it shows admirable determination to learn a foreign language. It proves that if you are really motivated, if you really care, if you have a goal that is really vital to you, YOU CAN DO IT! You can learn English! What’s your goal? Is it strong enough to make you achieve fluency in English? If not, go find it! Set your goals and make them happen! The sooner, the better 🙂

  1. It’s very true , everyone can learn English , no matter if they are 8 or 80 years old ! If you are motivated enough you can do anything you want . That commercial is so moving ! It also shows how strong the power of love is. It’s making us do anything for people we love and take care of. It’s incredible.

  2. I love this commercial too! It makes my eyes wet whenever I see it and suddenly I start crying my eyes out. It shows that it doesn’t matter if you’re young or old. Everything is possible!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOnrzULj-BE -> this video is a spanish commercial which is on the tv during every Christmas. Loteria de Navidad is one of the customs in Spain. It’s like Lotto, but much bigger. When my spanish teacher showed me this video, it like… broke my heart and fixed it all at the same time.
There’re lots of commercials worth to see and they’re not boring or annoying for sure.

  3. That advertisement is so authentic. It doesn’t only move or touch our hearts but it also teaches us the truth about love and compassion. And what is more, I love the way learning a foreign language is shown – it’s inspiring! With motivation and strong will impossibility does not exist!! 😀

  4. This advertisement caught my attention because it shows that it is worthwhile to learn foreign languages and each person has different motivations to do it. Although, my favorite holiday-specific advert this year is from John Lewis a popular in the UK retail chain. I would recommend you to check this out! 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sr6lr_VRsEo

  5. It ‘s beautiful! My aunt cried when she saw this commercial!
It shows that It is never too late to learn something new. I think that this is one of the best commercials what I saw!

  6. I love this advertisement. When I saw this commercial, I cried. This was the most moving. It caught my attention, because the main character is an old man. Often advertisements present young people. I didn’t switch it off, I thought about my grandfather. I was curious “Why the old man learns a foreign language?”. His goal was charming. I will remember this commercial for a long time. I think that this commercial is true and I would like to see only such ads.

  7. I hate comercials because it really disturbs and prolongs our time on the Internet because we must wait until the commercial dissppears. In my opinion this one was made to show how English and other languages are necessary nowadays because families often emigrate to other countries and then sometimes they lose touch because children don’t know older generation and they can’t break the language barrier.

I really enjoy this commercial because it shows how strong and powerful love can be. What are we capable of when we’re sick of longing?
We are capable of everything. It is love that makes us climb the highest mountain and drives us to change our lives.
Love and longing are the forces that cannot be resisted. When you feel love or loved impossible is nothing. And that’s what this commercial is all about: LOVE
    – the greatest strenght an motivation.

  9. I find this commercial so moving, that I don’t even know what to say. You know why it is outstanding? Because it shows authentic feelings. This old man should become an inspiration for all this people that can only complain about everything. If you are looking for excuses, stop it and try to find your own goal.

I really like that commercial too, I admire the determination of this man even he’s old and it’s definitely harder for him to learn new languages. That commercial shows what people could do for family or someone they really love.
I think that kind of commercials should be shown because they could teach people something.

  11. I have seen this commercial year ago in class. Although It’s almost holiday, I’d like to say that this gets everyone. It’s never too late for studying english.
Even though I don’t like commercials, I like this one. Old man wants to visit family in London and it’s just beautiful to see his determination. Also it shows way to learn english faster, I’m talking about sticky notes stuck everywhere, it can help to learn some vocabulary
