Looking for a good movie to watch? Check out ‘Quid Pro Quo’! – a post by Ala

quid-pro-quo-movie-poster-2008-1020411170Hello everyone, my name is Ala and I am a student of the second grade. I would like to tell you about a movie which I saw a couple of weeks ago. It is called ‘Quid Pro Quo’ and it is both a drama and a romance. It’s directed by Carlos Brooks and the cast includes Vera Farmiga as Fiona and Nick Stahl as Isaac Knott.

The story begins, when Isaac Knott, a semi-paralyzed journalist, gets a message from an anonymous person telling him about people who are physically healthy but want to appear disabled. After a short period of time he meets his informant who turns out to be a beautiful, mysterious Fiona. Shortly after that she reveals her little secret to him.

I was in utter shock after watching this movie, yet it was sort of predictable.

One question I had, was why would a healthy person want to appear disabled?

I came up with some theories and here they are. One of them is that such person might simply be looking for attention or maybe developing emotions. The other one… Well, one of the characters does say that: ‘I used to think if aliens landed and they saw all the able-bodied people, and then they saw the people on their wheelchairs, they would say that those must be kings and queens, because they have special ramps and they never have to get up’, which seems farfetched but aptly fitting people who would have such strange tendencies.

Overall, I think this is a good movie to watch but it might not be for everybody. But in spite of that, I recommend checking it out without hesitation.

What would be your answers to the question I had? Feel free to share them with me in the comments.

  1. I think this movie is very controversial, especially that part when one of characters say : “ People on wheelchairs are like Kings and Queen because they can use ramp and they don’t have to get up”. It is really bad for me. The movie is very interesting. I think it is very important topic to talk about with people. How we see people on wheelchairs ? It is a sociological question.

  2. After reading your summary of the plot, this film seems to be really stupefying and thoughtful at the same time. I’m pretty curious about female’s character. I think ‘Quid Pro Quo’ definitely will be my next choice while looking through netfilx.
